The 93-acre farm, Avalon, with Locust Creek’s shining waters meandering through its bottomland and a shack for refuge, has belonged to Jim and me since 1988. We used this beautiful wilderness land as a personal retreat until 2003, when a group of volunteers and Jim and I decided to live in community and see what we could do together for service to the Creator, to L/L Research, and to each other.
One direction this group took was to conceive of the idea of forming spiritual community on Avalon. Although there were isolated forays by the group to Avalon between 2003 and 2004, Melissa was the first to live there and to keep an Avalon Journal during the summer and early fall of 2004. We have lost that Journal, I am sorry to say. However, others began making Avalon Journal entries later that fall and continued for the year or so that project was active.
During that time, volunteers came and went on Avalon. Our construction head, Bruce P, was never able to form a good working crew, and so the project eventually failed for lack of helpers and donations. Without being able to build, there was not a future for a community there. The project was closed in late 2005.
We continue to use Avalon for retreats. And Avalon’s land is leased to L/L Research so that when the energy is right for this project, we shall be set up to respond and try again for spiritual community on Avalon.
Meanwhile, enjoy your read through our adventures on Avalon!
